De Wiz Stars komen uit de filmmusical The Wiz uit 1978. Deze filmmusical is de remake van de originele film The Wizard Of Oz uit 1939. De soundtrack van de musical uit 1978 is van het bekende soullabel Motown Records.

Twee grote artiesten uit de Motownstallen spelen de hoofdrollen. Diana Ross speelt Dorothy en Michael Jackson is te zien als de vogelverschrikker.

In The Wiz gaan Dorothy (Diana Ross), de vogelverschrikker (Michael Jackson), de Leeuw (Ted Ross) en de Blikken-man (Nipsey Russell) op zoek naar The Wizard of Oz (Richard Pryor).
Alleen deze tovenaar kan hun wensen in vervulling laten gaan.

Een van de bekendste hits uit de film is het nummer ‘Brand New Day’.
