Born and raised in Memphis, Wendy Moten first gained experience singing in her church choir. After a performance with Michael Bolton at a benefit in New York, the R&B singer signed to EMI/ERG, released a self-titled debut album, and supported Bolton on a tour.

Wendy Moten was born on 22nd November, in Memphis, Tennessee.

Her father, James Moten, was the musical director at St. Stephen Baptist Church were she first sang gospel music in the church's choir.

Wendy Moten attended Overton High School in Memphis and worked three consecutive summers at 'Libertyland' (the city's war themed amusement park),singing in the youth performance ensemble.

While attending the University of Memphis, she sang in local clubs when local musician Kevin Paige, a former classmate at Overton, recruited her as a background singer in his band when he acheived the opening act slot for Debbie Gibson's 1988 tour.

Moten met manager and producer Dick Williams in 1991, and he convinced her to record a demonstration tape at Cotton Row Studios.

After a performance with Michael Bolton at a benefit in New York, the R & B singer signed to EMI / ERG, she released a self-titled debut album and supported Bolton on a tour.

'Time For Change', her second album, was released exclusively in Japan.

Another exclusive Japanese album, 'Christmas Time,' was released in October 1995.
