War

War

Formed in Long Beach, Calif. in 1969, War got their start backing up ex-Animals vocalist Eric Burdon on several solo albums, including his platinum 1970 album Spill the Wine. Sporting a mix of soul, rock, funk and jazz, War soon became a group with a reputation of its own, continuing on after Burdon ended their relationship in 1971. Moving to United Artists, the group released several influential, politically charged gold albums, featuring hits like "The Cisco Kid" and "Lowrider." After some difficulties during the mid-1970s, the group switched to MCA for two more albums, then moved to RCA in the early '80s before breaking up. A decade later War was rediscovered by fans of modern R&B and hip-hop, and reformed in 1994 to record War. The band continues touring and recording to this day. Their most recent album, Life is So Strange, was released in 1996.
