Vanity Fare

It was in the cold wet summer of 1968 that things were made brighter by the emergence of a brilliant new vocal harmony group, from the Medway Towns, Kent, called VANITY FARE. They had just finished recording their first single, I LIVE FOR THE SUN for Page One Records, and by August ’68 it was in the Top Twenty, staying there for nine weeks. They soon established regular world-wide chart success when their next two singles, HITCHIN’ A RIDE and EARLY IN THE MORNING, went gold in the UK and the USA, with sales of over 4 million.
With a change of record label in 1971, first to DJM and then to Phillips / Phonogram, other hits soon followed including favourites like CAROLINA’S COMING HOME, ROCK AND ROLL IS BACK. TAKE IT SHAKE IT, (written for the band by the legendary Georgio Moroder) and BETTER BY FAR, one of the all time classic ballads penned by Tony Macaulay. To- Date the band have released more than twenty singles and eight albums and more recently were signed to Rod Stewart’s own Rive Record label.
Their Success in America was heightened when HITCHIN’ A RIDE was adopted as a cult song by many of the West Coast DJs and started the HITCH–HIKE dance craze. Some of the early highlights of their career include television appearances in the USA, with the “Mamas and Papas” and a world tour with the “Beach Boys”. Their undoubted success has led them to tour extensively in many countries around the world including the USA, Australia, Europe, Scandinavia and the Middle East. They have also appeared on over 100 TV shows including “Top Of The Pops” and “Beat Club” and performed at many prestigious venues including the “Paris Olympia”, “Royal Albert Hall”, the “London Palladium” and the “Sydney Showground’s Music Expo”.
The bands current stage show reflects much of their 30 year history and features their own hits from the 60’s & 70’s plus a varied selection of the best music from that period including The Beach Boys, The Beatles and The Byrds. VANITY FARE is a band whose career began in the late sixties and can still boast having three members who have been working together for over two and a half decades!! Together they make a highly professional group, with an impressive history and an outstanding stage show.
