Red 5

Red 5

Red 5 was producer Thomas Kukula (who is not on stage), rapper Lemar, beautiful singer Nadja and dancer Vanessa. Lemar, who grew up in Manhattan, used to be a dancer for Whigfield. In Germany he met Sir Prophet (ex-Mr.President), who introduced him to the music business. Before he started RED 5, Lemar sang the backing vocals for Charles & Eddy and did a TV commercial for C & A. The singer Nadja was born in Tunesia. Originally Lemar asked her to become a dancer for RED5 but he soon recognized her fantastic voice. Shortly afterwards she sang the vocals on "I Love You...Stop!" and "Lift Me Up". In January '97 dancer Vansessa joined RED 5. The former aerobic instructor comes from Barcelona and came to Germany to study classical dance. Lemar met the Spanish girl at a RED 5 rehearsal at the gym and asked her to join the group.
With their catchy synthie-tunes RED 5 have not only invented "NRW-house", a style that is not only celebrated by German deejays (among them Sequential One, Striking Man, DJ Spacekid) but has also become an international success - "I Love You...Stop!" was No. 11 in the official British Charts.

RED 5 had become one of the most popular club acts in Germany. In July 1997 they were awarded the prize for "Best House act of the year" by the German teenage magazine "Bravo".

The success story of RED 5 is the story of producer Thomas Kukula. Ten years ago he was deejay in various nightclubs in Germany. The trained mechanic soon realised he wanted more for himself than just playing other people's records. He therefore founded the project General Base and "Base of Love", the first single release by General Base, sold more than 150,000 copies. General Base was later followed by the projects T.H.K. and Candy Beat.

Following their great chart hits "Da Beat Goes", "I Love You....Stop!" and "Lift Me Up", they released a RED 5 double A' side single "For This World/RED 5 Jumps".

With their song "For This World" RED 5 are taking a new direction. The song features dramatic new sounds and the lyrics and unique voice of rapper Lemar, whereas "RED 5 Jumps" is the development of the well-known RED 5 sound.

July 7th, 1997 they released their debut album called "Forces". "Forces" is a strong album that touches a variety of genres.
It features the well-known titles "Da Beat Goes", "I Love You...Stop!" and "Lift Me Up" as well as new tracks.

On August 3rd, 1998 there was a CD-single release in The Netherlands called: "Da Bass" at BYTE Music.

On June 19, 2000 there was a 12" release called "Que Pasa / Rocking Affair" on the label Netrecord-Z.

In January 2001 the single "Rhythm & Drums 2001", released by DJ Red 5 vs. DJs @ Work, was released.

On November 3, 2003 DJ Red 5 vs. Mc Miker G released "Da Beat Goes-Reanimated".
