Paul Young

Paul Young

Soulful British vocalist Paul Young was born in Luton, England in 1956 and played bass and sung in various bands (including the Q-Tips) before bursting on to that country's music scene in 1983 with a cover of Marvin Gaye's "Wherever I Lay My Hat (That's My Home)," taken from Young's solo debut album No Parlez. His 1985 follow-up The Secret of Association broke Young in the U.S. with a cover of Hall and Oates' "Everytime You Go Away." Later that year he participated in the "Live Aid" charity event.

After releasing 1986's Between Two Fires and taking some time off to be with his family, Young staged a comeback in 1990 with Other Voices, produced by Don Was, which spawned the U.S. Top 10 single "Oh Girl," originally by the Chi-Lites. Moving to MCA, Young took some time off to work on other projects (such as a Q-Tips reunion) and played with a group called Los Pacaminos before returning in 1997 with a long-awaited eponymous album, featuring the U.K. single "I Wish You Love."
