Karen Young (born Harriet Karen Young) was born March 23, 1951, in Philadelphia, PA, & died on January 26, 1991, of a ruptured stomach in Philadelphia, PA. She was only 39. She's buried in Shalom Memorial Park in Montgomerysville, PA. Her numerous songs are listed on ASCAP. In the late 60's, Karen Young had a hit with Major Minor Records in England, with the song, "Nobody's Child." After a long hiatus, Karen Young hit the "big time" with the #1 Disco Hit, "Hot Shot" in 1978. Karen Young also sang "Baby You Ain't Nothin' Without Me," "Dynamite," "Detour," "Hot for You," as well as numerous other songs. She performed track shows throughout the US & Canada. Her songs also became popular in Europe. Despite her many illnesses, Karen had a wonderful sense of humor. I had the pleasure of being "best buddies" & (sometimes touring with her doing back-up vocals) with Karen Young (whom I fondly referred to as "Harry" [from her given first name of "Harriet"]) from the late 1970s until her untimely death in early 1991. With Disco making a "comeback," did it really ever leave? -- no it was just called "dance music." Karen Young was also a very skilled jazz musician, piano player, songwriter, as well as a superb vocalist. She is still sorely missed to this day.........
