Jesse Green

Jesse Green

Jesse Green (Locksley Alphanso Green) arrived in England in 1965 at the age of 17 years old to join his family and to fulfil his musical dream as a drummer in a band and to play to live audiences giving them the early Sound of Jamaican SKA known as the BLUE BEAT in London, England. Jesse began to seek out local musicians in Slough, Buckinghamshire, where he resided. He teamed up with a band after several evenings of practising on the drums, and then began his journey as a semi-professional drummer and back up vocalist, supplying music for dinner and dance and a variety of private musical engagements. He instructed the band on how to form the sound of the SKA and to play it to their audiences, amongst several other musical styles. Jesse could play the US soul style music as well as playing the Original SKA sound of the SKATAILITES, his speciality since then. As the music changed from a quicker tempo of SKA to ROCKSTEADY, he held it together to produce a sound for the band, as the audiences were delighted with a taste of the authentic Caribbean sounds. ROCKSTEADY filtered into the fresh beat of reggae like night into day. Jesse used his voice as backing harmonies, simultaneously, playing the drums adding to the sound of the group. He bought his first car allowing him to transport his drums to London where he began to rehearse with THE PIONEERS, popular 60s Jamaican Vocal trio, hitting the No. 1 spot in the British charts, he then began a UK tour with the trio and their backing musicians playing in the Night Clubs throughout England. After touring with the PIONEERS, Jesse joined DESMOND DEKKER as bassist for several months of electric bass fingering practicing with reggae sound. Jesse moved into the area of recording, frequently using a studio to develop his talent, whilst learning to superimpose instruments such as the piano, electric bass, rhythm guitar and the drums. He supported JUNIOR WALKER AND THE ALL STARS with another band from High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, and again audiences were thrilled by the sounds they heard. In 1973 there came an offer to make cover versions of popular Motown hits together with several musicians from the UK with whom he backed THE PIONEERS. 2 albums were made by a London producer, the first was by the title "Funky Reggae" the second “Album Soul Power’’. These Albums were made under a separate name as, at this time, ‘Jesse Green’ was not used as a recording artist’s name. Session work became interesting to Jesse as he began to play on recordings for other known vocalists in known recording studios, such as Chalk Farm, working with popular musicians from the GREYHOUND BAND and supplying backing music for Alton Ellis Ellis, Judge Dread, Tito Simon, Owen Gray and for many more. He joined Jimmy Cliff on a world tour. In 1974, they toured Lagos, playing in stadiums holding up to 45.000 people. Going on to Trinidad and to the world famous CARNEGIE HALL where Reggae was played for the first time in history. On returning from these tours Jesse came back to London and began seeking a solo career as a vocalist. This came about in 1975 when he signed his first music contract as a Recording Artist and later in 1976, he enjoyed the success of his first hit record NICE AND SLOW reaching up to the No. 15 spot on the UK's National Charts and No.1 in the Billboard Disco charts out in America and the top of the Hit Parade Charts in Holland, Belgium, Italy, Spain, France and Germany. Audiences were genuinely supportive of his performances as he shuffled, sang and danced on the stage to his second hit record FLIP reaching the No. 25 spot in the UK's National Charts; by this time he achieved a few million sales together with his Record Company, Red Bus Music. Jesse had a few years out of the scene of musical activities, between 1981 and 1991, when he began to compose and arrange music of his own feelings. In 1992 he began showings of a video and a self penned song YOU BRING OUT THE BEST IN ME recorded on his own label. At this time he had performances in Holland, "Goud van Oud Show", with audiences of 16.000 and then performances on the Diamond Awards festivals in Belgium, 1993, 1996 and 1998. Presently, there is a ten track album to be marketed and a new single as Jesse prepares for some European tours.
