Captain Jack

Captain Jack

Captain Jack became one of the most controversial groups of last weeks. Franky Gee (born 02-19-62) and Liza Da Costa (born 03-26-68) are performing in army uniform. In spite of attire they sing about love and peace. This singing couple from Darmstadt (Germany) have recently released their first album The Mission.

Franky Gee (his real name Francisco Gutierez) was born in Havana, Cuba . He and their parents immigrated to US and settled in Miami, Florida. He wanted to become a pilot and even had studied aeronautics in College in Miami. Because of the strike the college students were forced to serve three years and Franky did not like the idea and dropped the school. His parents were not rich and he had to find a job. The easiest way was to join the army, so he did. His memories from this time is not the nicest one. He was later sent to Germany and in 1988 he was released from the duty. He decided to stay in Germany. At the beginning he worked as an insurance agent than become a broker in Frankfurt (Germany). He did not like the job, even if he was well paid. He became a DJ and started producing a dance music with his friends. He released the single "Oh Well" under Westside. He was previously married and has three children.

Liza Da Costa was born in Portugal. His mother is Portugese while her father was born in India, however they have moved to Germany when she was a child. When she was 12, she started to sing. She had in her repertoire songs by Whitney Houston. His friend has a recording studio where the music for TV movies is being produced. She was a part of female jazz group.

Everything started quite recently. Liza, Franky Udo and Richard (these two guys are their producers) known each other from Frankfurt (Germany). Franky remembered from his earlier days during his time in the army that drill commands had something quite specific about it. He talked about it with Udo, and he produced a track with sharp dance beat. That's how everything started

Captain Jacks' songs are quite unique. You will find sound of army drill commands with a nice dance beat. Captain Jack is far from being a militarist group. They are soldiers of a dancefloor and their weapon is groove. They only joke about real army. They say that when soldiers are doing drill, they move rhytmically and are very energic. If you would place them in the dancefloor and start play the music, they would do quite good. In their opinion, soldiers are good ravers but they do not know about it. Beside that, Liza simply likes unforms.

With the group are three cute dancing girls: Yvonne, Sandra and Sabine. At the very beginning Franky was not performing on stage. One of his friend: Durban was performing, however voice was coming from Franky. In December of 1995 Durban left, and Franky decided to start performing.

Their first track released in 1995 was "Captain Jack" and just recently "Drill Instructor". Both of these songs are in their first album: The Mission. Captain Jack was on extensive tournee in Germany in the Summer of 1996, when they promoted their nextsingle "Soldier, Soldier" which is also part of this album.

In the beginning of 1997 they released the new single "Together And Forever" (cat# 7243 8 83738 2 1, EMI) that appeared on their second album released in March 1997 entitiled: Operation Dance.
